your appointment
Check in
You will be greeted by our friendly staff who will register you and dilate your pupils. You should expect that your vision will be blurry for 4-8 hours and should not drive to your appointment. The wait will be at least 30 minutes to see the doctor while your pupils are dilating. Due to unscheduled emergencies, especially when we are on-call, the wait may be longer and you should expect to be at your appointment for at least 2 hours though often it is much faster. If it is your first visit, we will ask you to fill out some forms that will help us get to know you better.
Tests
While you are waiting to see the doctor our technicians may perform tests that will help Dr Manusow diagnose and manage your retinal condition. We have all of the state of the art new machines including optical coherence tomography, non-invasive optical coherence tomography angiography, wide field imaging, autofluorescence, B-scan ultrasound, automated visual fields, IOL Master. Unfortunately Manitoba Health does not cover all of these tests and there are fees associated with some. Depending on why you are seeing Dr Manusow you may have all, some, or none of these tests. We also have access to multi focal electroretinogram, full field electroretinogram, visual evoked potentials, fluorescein, and indocyanine green angiography at the Misericordia Hospital.
Consultation
You will be brought into an exam room and our technician will measure your visual acuity, intraocular pressure, and ask you some basic health questions. Dr Manusow will see you next. He will take a detailed history, ask you questions, and thoroughly examine your eyes. There will be a lot of bright lights. After the examination, Dr Manusow will explain your diagnosis and therapeutic options. He will take the time to answer any questions you might have. Dr Manusow will then send a letter to your doctor to update them with the plan.
Procedures
If you require laser treatment, intravitreal injection, or other in-office based procedures they will either take place directly after the consultation or will be scheduled later at a convenient and appropriate time. If you require surgery it will be booked at the Misericordia Health Centre in Winnipeg.
After your consultation and treatment you will check out with our staff who will book any follow up appointments/tests you may require, book surgery, provide you with letters or forms, or direct you to the lab for blood work or to the imaging department.
